Now known as Menopause Hormone Therapy (MHT)
At Inner MD Hormone Health, we provide personalized hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to help men and women, in Halifax and across Atlantic Canada, including Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador and Prince Edward Island, address symptoms that may be linked to hormonal changes. Led by Dr. Jennifer Johnston, a family physician board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine, our approach focuses on evidence-based care, tailored treatment plans, and ongoing follow-up to help you feel like yourself again.
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a treatment approach used to restore hormones that may be at lower-than-optimal levels due to age, life stage, or other factors. By supporting healthy hormone balance, HRT may help improve overall quality of life, energy levels, and daily function.
At InnerMD, we primarily use bioidentical hormones — molecules structurally identical to those naturally produced by the body — and tailor each treatment plan to the individual.
Hormone replacement therapy may be appropriate for adults experiencing symptoms associated with menopause, perimenopause, andropause, or other hormone-related conditions. These symptoms can include:
Fatigue or low energy
Hot flashes and night sweats
Mood changes such as irritability, anxiety, or low mood
Sleep disturbances
Low libido or changes in sexual health
Brain fog and reduced concentration
Weight changes or altered muscle mass
Our assessment process ensures that every treatment plan is personalized to the patient’s unique needs.
We follow a clear, patient-focused process for all hormone replacement therapy care:
Comprehensive Intake – Patients complete our online intake form.
Initial Consultation – A 30-minute virtual meeting to review medical history and symptoms.
Lab Testing (If Needed) – Ordered to assess current hormone levels.
Personalized Treatment Plan – Recommendations based on symptoms, test results, and health goals.
Follow-Up and Adjustment – Reassessment at 6–8 weeks, with further follow-ups every 3–6 months until stable, then annually.

The safety of hormone replacement therapy depends on individual health factors. We assess each patient’s medical history and needs before recommending a treatment plan.
Some people may notice improvements within weeks, while others may take longer. Each person’s response to HRT is different, and follow-up visits allow for ongoing adjustments.
We primarily use bioidentical hormones, but in certain cases, synthetic options may be considered if clinically appropriate.
Lab testing is often recommended but may not be required in every case. Your consultation will determine whether labs are appropriate for you.
